Lurgan District No. 6 |
|
The triumph of the Protestant King William III, Prince
of Orange over King James II at the Battle of the Boyne
on the 1st July 1690 is celebrated by Orangemen and
women the world over with colourful parades.
In Northern Ireland the annual Boyne Celebrations are
the country's biggest expression of Protestant culture
and heritage. No other voluntary organisation can match
the Orange Order for colour, music and crowd appeal. The
Orange culture has existed in County Armagh since 1795
and still attracts the largest, most colourful and
organised parade in Northern Ireland.
Every 11 years each District takes its turn to host the
County Armagh Grand Orange Lodge 12th July Celebrations.
The Orange Order is a Protestant fraternity with members
throughout the world, ranging from Scotland, England,
the United States of America, West Africa, Canada,
Australia and New Zealand. |
